Feels Like Home ~ Stitch Maynia ~ Day 1 from Life in the Scrapatch

A New Cross Stitch Start

Blogged Here in April about my plans to participate in

Part 1 was released today and I was ready!

(because I can see this ... sort of ... with my vision issues)
and the recommended DMC colors in the supply list.

Maestro kept me company napping on "her new quilt" tonight
while I started stitching the tail feathers on the blue bird.

Not perfect, but I am happy ...

Scraps ~ Before and After from Life in the Scrapatch

This what my sewing table looked like this morning.

These are all scraps and cut-offs and left over fabric from piecing my quilt top.

There were several large pieced triangles that were cut away during the sewing
due to the piecing method and a small pile of strips.

This is my completed top for my

Sew trimmed and I sewed the extra pieces together into scrap blocks.

This is my scraps after sewing ... the small pile in the upper right.

I made a long strip of scrap blocks for making a pieced back to my quilt
and ...

stitch ...stitch ...stitch ... from Life in the Scrapatch

... stitch ... stitch ... stitch ...

Is machine applique supposed to be a quick method?

Not when I am stitching it.

I set my machine to a crawl to get the curves right.

The top fabric is a woven.
I have never fused and appliqued a woven before this project.
I lengthened my side stitch and shortened my straight stitch
on my blanket stitch.

Sew far ... Sew good ... Sew slow.

Tomorrow I will resume.

Applique Time from Life in the Scrapatch

Time to get my machine applique skills up to par.

I am working on a new pattern that is my March Blog Hop project.

Here is a sneak peek.

The two neutral fabrics are wovens.
I have never appliqued the cut edge of a woven before,
but it seams to be working.

Looking forward to showing you this one soon!

I Like Thursday #46 ~ Scrappy & Happy from Life in the Scrapatch

My mini tea rose is blooming on my sunny south facing kitchen windowsill.
I shared the story of this gift in my

This is my first bloom of the year for 2020.

It has been such a mild February that the buds are starting
to get fat on my forsythia in my back yard.
The ground is cracking where some of my bulbs are planted.
Spring is coming soon!

I have been taking this advice from a quilt to heart
and have been tending these thoughts.

I had three ...

push the long needle through the fabric
and then pull the needle and smooth the stitches.

If Wishes Were Stitches from Life in the Scrapatch

My quilty kitties and I have been stitching.

Maestro is very "paws on"

Katniss has been inspecting her work very closely.

Together,  my kitties are making progress with their hand quilting.

Nutmeg is taking a nap somewhere.

Maybe I will just leave the stitching kitties to their work
and go join Nutmeg,

Maybe the stitching will be all done for me when I wake up.

I Like Thursday # 43 ~ Coffee, Cats, Groundhogs and Quilts from Life in the Scrapatch

"Is it Thursday Morning, Mommy?"
says the sleepy Nutmeg.

It is  lightly snowing here today.

So ... as usual ... New England Weather is paying no attention to ...

who predicted an early spring last Sunday.

On Sunday Mr Scrapatch and I enjoyed watching the Super Bowl and
munching the goodies made by our oldest Scrapatch Hatchling.

This is my actual annual take on Groundhog Day ...

This always makes me smile.

My groundhogging is complete for the year until ...

I Like Thursday Post # 42 ~ In the Midst of Winter from Life in the Scrapatch

This is a rosebud.

It is on the mini tea rose bush that one of my sons gave me last fall.

It sits on my south facing kitchen windowsill
which is sunny, but also very cold,
and bitterly cold at night.

When I saw this pretty little rosebush, my first thought was that it beautiful
and my son was thoughtful because he knows how much I love my rosebushes.

My second thought was, "How am I going to keep it alive this winter?"

I have not had much luck with this type of mini tea rose gift in the past ...

One Monthly Goal for January ~ Completed from Life in the Scrapatch

My January OMG is completed!

This goal oriented event is hosted monthly by

I started this project with this blank cloth and new thread spool
and posted this as

These were my first Sashiko Stitches.

I combined this goal with my Winter Blues Blog Hop project
which was to learn something new for this first month of the New Year.

I enjoyed this new journey very much and decided
to honor my first Sashiko stitches
by framing it in fabric and a simple white frame.
The small vase was a refrigerator ...

I Like Thursday # 41 ~ Winter's Gifts from Life in the Scrapatch

Life has been kind.
It has been snowy and then a very sunny week here.
It has been cold all week.
The snow has stayed and crunches underfoot.

On Sunday when it snowed, our heat went out three times
before the repair guy got everything up and running  smoothly again.
Thankfully it has been warm inside since then.

Last week I missed I Like Thursday
as I was under the influence of a wintery malaise.
has gone a long way toward lifting my winter blues.

I have mostly spent my time indoors under my daylight ...

Winter Blues Sneak Peek

Today it is sunny and cold and we are digging out from last night's snow storm.

We had a very bitter early morning as the temperatures plummeted.
 the icy winds blew,
and our heat went off in the wee hours of the night.

All is well and warm now here and I am looking forward
to the beating the wintery blues with the

A Good Night to Stay In and Stitch from Life in the Scrapatch

My Motif #1 ~ Top Row Center
for my Quilty Love Cross Stitch is done!

I am really happy with how this one is working up.

I got to the center of this motif and decided o add a new color.
Green was not a part of the original plan.

I have decided I want to use these fabrics for inspiration and finishing
and  I do not have a lot of DMC colors so I opened this package
of Cosmo Floss that was in my stash and used that.
The Cosmo floss feels different and I little thinner.,
but it works ...
